Episode 205
Starbuck + Anders.
Whoa. Starbuck being shot was a surprise. It launches the main storyline for this episode.
Zarek says, "Adama is back in command." Lee is visibly emotional and it's important to say "my father" (we have to keep those Adamas straight.) Then Lee continues to show his independent thinking by not crossing his father. This sends the (former) President into action.
The Doctor is creepy and Kara nails him as a Cylon. On second viewing it is important to note that she just says she is Kara Thrace, not Starbuck. The Doctor was clearly trying to fool her with the Anders is dead deal. You can see that she almost grabs the IV in the second scene with him, but gets drugged; she is obviously suspicious.
Back on Galactica there is a nice scene with the Commander and the Chief. Adama states that Boomer was more than a machine. They knew her for two years! The significance of love is stressed. Remember G-Boomer's last words were "I love you Chief." "You'll see her again. There are many copies." Great reference.
Back on Caprica, Simon is throwing out good excuses to make things seem normal, but like a true Cylon he is mainly interested in breeding. They have this in common with the human survivors.
Interesting character development on Starbuck's abuse as a child.
In the fleet, the religious message from Rosilyn is out. Adama denies the obvious that the people will follow her. We see with the powerful blessing scene that many will follow her.
Anders lives! Starbuck is right. Sharon is now with them. Yikes another incision. Have they taken her ovary or what?
This time she does grab the IV and catches the Doctor with Six. The act ends with Kara praying for help.
Next act:
The Doctor does suspect something is up. The IV is not empty enough. She never told him she was "Starbuck." As he dies he says "You can't kill me." Just in case we were not sure he was a Cylon.
Now we see the farm that give the episode its title. The Cylons are breeding a lot of women.
Yea! As things look bad, C-Boomer comes to save the day. The next scene we see the Commander's grief over Boomer being a Cylon. 1/3 of the fleet - 24 ships have gone.
The one thing they were missing was love. (For successful breeding...) C-Boomer is now an accepted part of the resistence even though she is a Cylon. Her whole situation is out in the open.
We know Kara is special; another of Leoben's prophecies.
It is so cool that Kara has lost an eybrow along the way. Bye Anders, sniff...doesn't he look like Lee???

Kara is special.... but what does that really mean? We know her as an out of the box thinker, a great fighter pilot and, when her knee is acting up, a naturally talented strategic planner.
Those aren't reasons for the cylons to "know of her". Well, maybe they could be... but I wondered about the fact that the doctor (new model!) knew her as Starbuck. So the entire cylon population knows who starbuck is? What about that last Six... museum-Six. Did she know who starbuck was? Didn't she also call her by name? I don't remember for sure. What was m-Six doing there anyway?
Museum-Six could have tracked the two love bunnies into the museum... but she seemed pretty focused on killing Kara. Seemed pretty personal actually. What if Six knew Kara was going to be there. She might not have even known c-Boomer-Helo were there. How would she know Kara would be there?
Maybe Kara is special because she is part of the prophecy as is the president. It's possible that the person delivering the arrow to the dying leader would be mentioned, and even play a bigger role yet to be revealed. It makes me wonder if we heard parts of the prophecy again, we might discern some mention of the arrow deliverer, and hear something there pointing to Kara. Perhaps that's yet to come. Six might have somehow discerned from prophecy that Starbuck was destined to arrive son... and staked out the museum.
For now that's the best reason I can think of for Kara to be "special". Perhaps Boomer will reveal the prophecy connection soon.. since she seems pretty familiar with Kara's special status.
All this raises another question though... why is Six the one cylon model who wants Kara killed, who seemed to be in a rage (jealousy? or is she trying to stop prophecy?) in the museum, and who's counterpart is jealous of starbuck's allure to Doc Gaius. She doesn't like Boomer either... and she kissed Helo once... Boomer's beau. Bit of a queen bee actually. Seems like six has plans separate from the cylon's plans. I suspect her plans involve making changes to what is laid out by the prophecies, and killing Kara may help her do that.
Does Six want Gaius to deliver the arrow? And how connected is m-Six to Hospital-Six to Battlestar-six to all the other six's anyway?
Is that what Boomer was, a machine?
I guess we should have predicted Adama's softening of attitude toward cylons. It will make it easier to accept his machine-son when the time comes. Also I guess he will accept c-Boomer, assuming she makes the trip with Helo. I guess they will be returning to the Battlestar, or Kobold, next week.
Still, I thought the scene with morgue-Boomer was surprising. I think you are right.... the grief must be over learning she was a cylon. Really more human than cylon... in fact the only difference would be her embedded programming. For successful breeding the one thing missing was love... and Six one time said of Boomer "Her model was always flawed". Is the capacity for love the flaw Six is referring to? The Boomerettes told Boomer they loved her, just before she blew them up. If Boomer acquires love, does she become human? Is she really a cylon any more, or a human with dark thoughts. Lot's of humans have dark thoughts without being cylon (I bet Kara has some). c-Boomer joins the resistance.... seems like she's being accepted as human. No longer a toaster.
Maybe that's Adama's realization... at some point Boomer really had become a human.
So was I the only one waiting for her eye's to pop open there on the slab. You know some writer wanted to do it.... "oh! oh! I know.... then just before we fade, her eyes pop open! yeah.... no one's expecting that!" Whew... that was close. That was the most stressful scene of the hour.... "oh no.... don't do it, they're cylons not zombies!"
Why does Adama say "I feel closer to the ground", after he and Tigh have taken up their posts? That sounded almost like an inside joke. He kinda looked shorter now that I think about it.
wohoo! scifi is running a season 2 marathon, all five episodes... on Tuesday 8.16 starting at 6pm cst!
Funny thing is, I thought immediately "Simon sounds like Cylon lol" and tagged him as a Cylon in mockery of the whole "Everyone's a Cylon" paranoia gripping the BSG fan scene. How right I proved to be.
Also, we don't know that love is the factor--we don't know if C-Boomer is or is not pregnant at this point.
C-Boomer is definitely pregnant. She and Helo have said it many times. Plus the morning sickness was there as a huge hint in Season 1. C-Boomer says love is the difference. I think she is right, but I also believe love may make a Cylon "human" (although she can apparently still access the net.)
Yes, just because both C-Boomer and Helo said it (lacking any sort of medical equipment to confirm) it must be true. Helo's opinion on the matter is irrefutable.
The morning sickness is a better piece of evidence, I must admit.
It's a major plot device to have the C-Boomer/Helo connection. "Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar."
Speaking of plot devices, I wonder if the child abuse angle is just character development, or something that will become plot at some point. It's the second reference, two shows in a row, to Kara's father. When they visit Kara's apartment, she plays a tape of piano music.... Helo asks if it's her playing ("is that you?").... no it's her father.
Now we find out she was injured as a child.... all fingers in the same place. Her reaction to the doctor shows us it really was abuse. This would have been from having a piano keyboard cover slammed down on her hands as a child. Based on the previous reference, it's safe to say it was her father. He abused her, maybe just once, but she still loves him, since listening to him play was one of the things she wanted to do in her apartment. The child abuse by itself would be character development... but I'm thinking we're getting more detail than we need for that.... which I think means one of two things. Either we will meet her father later, either in a dream or some cylon induced experience.... or the prophecy will describe some character that is really Kara, and the prophecy will somehow describe this character in terms of the abuse story.
I'm guessing we need this background for the prophecy. c-Boomer told Kara that she was special, then said to Kara that she "has a destiny". That sounds like prophecy.
"It's then that we will meet the gods' serpent - the arrow of apollo." That's from friday's show. It doesn't identify Kara , but it is odd that they would "meet" an arrow... the Gods' serpent. The prophecy makes the arrow of apollo sound like a person.
I'm hoping to be reminded of critical lines of prophecy in tomorrow nights marathon!
It is possible that the arrow of Apollo is a person. It doesn't make sense for the relic to be able to guide the way to Earth, unless it was somehow magnetized by Kobol's core. There most likely is something to this child abuse angle.
The Arrow is a person. My wife caught that as soon as it was first mentioned last season. All of the characters assume "Apollo" refers to the god Apollo, but Captain Apollo, cylon or not, has his own arrow doesn't he? Who is his best pilot? Who is his Arrow? It's convenient that Starbuck has the physical arrow in hand. I'm not sure what the big reveal will be, but I'm certain that the pointy-tipped stick isn't what gets them to Earth...
