Sci-Fi Deprivation
I'll admit it, I've been away from the wonderful world of Sci-fi for far too long. It's been rough...we cancelled our cable for these dull spring months, so no Dr. Who for me. I started up with a whole mess of new activities, and this shoved my precious blog and its accompanying show to the back of my mind. What a mistake that has been! I know that most of you have already seen this month-old release concerning the spin-off and the mini-series, but here it is again...
The following is taken from zap2it:
"The Sci Fi Channel will delve into the backstory of "Battlestar Galactica" with a new series that looks at the years leading up to humanity's devastation by the Cylons. The prequel, called "Caprica," heads a list of development projects the cable network unveiled Wednesday. Also in the works are a miniseries based on the book "Chariots of the Gods" and series from Jesse Alexander ("Alias"), Christopher McQuarrie ("The Usual Suspects"), Eric McCormack and Freddie Prinze Jr.Additionally, legendary B-movie director Roger Corman will produce two films for Sci Fi's Saturday movie franchise: "Cyclops," about the mythical beast wreaking havoc on ancient Rome, and "Supergator," which pretty much explains itself."Caprica" will be set more than 50 years prior to the events of "Battlestar Galactica" and focus on the lives of two families -- the Adamas (ancestors of future Galactica commander William) and the Graystones. Humankind's Twelve Colonies are at peace and on the verge of a technological breakthrough: the first Cylon. As "Battlestar Galactica" is about a lot more than space battles, "Caprica" will be as much family drama as sci-fi tale. Remi Aubuchon ("The Lyon's Den," "24") is writing the pilot script; "Galactica" veterans Ronald D. Moore and David Eick will executive produce it."Chariots of the Gods," Erich von Daniken's book purporting to offer evidence that aliens visited Earth several thousand years ago, is being turned into a six-hour miniseries by writer John Whelpley ("Star Trek: The Next Generation," "Andromeda"). The miniseries will center on a soldier whose souvenir from his tour of duty may hold evidence of alien interference with human life since ancient times. "
We'll see how this all pans out. And now, for a little amusement provided by our friends at the Battlestar Blog.

If you can't read it, the script goes something likes this...
Duck 1: Did you hear what happened to Hot Dawg?
Duck 2: Hunter got him.
1: Yeah, but did you hear how?
2: No.
1: He was swimming up the this beautiful female, right? Then BAM! A shot out of nowhere. Turns out she was a fake, a decoy.
2: Holy shit!
1: That's right, the hunters look like us now.
2: We...we can't trust anyone. Not even Commander Adama.
Well, it says, "Commander Adama", but we all know which Adama it should really be talking about...

The hunters look like us now.... I love it.
that was great news on a second series.... they can maybe get something going between BSG seasons before they become another Sopranos.... 8 episodes every three years.
I know someone did a special or movie or something years ago on Von Daniken's book.... I guess that was the Da Vinci Code of the 70's. But your description makes me think scifi is going to try their own version of x-files with it.... maybe some military intelligence instead of FBI? That would be cool....
Hey.... just occured to me that if they set Caprica in the period when the first cyloins are being invented... does that mean they are using cylon designs from the 70's!? yikes! Hopefully the 70's models will be a later stage of development.... I'd love to see a 50's noir sort of robot design to start off with. Sort of a Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow style.
Lee IS Commander Adama now, remember?
Oh my, good catch. I almost forgot about that season and what happened.
season 3.... OCT 6! or is it season 2.5. Anyway it's *almost* less than a month away!
Also.... interesting v-clip on sciFi Pulse.... their broadband site, BSG won a peabody award... or maybe this is their second year. The two video clips are the two BSG guys accepting the award... and thanking the two South Park guys... I have a feeling southpark will be spoofing bsg in their next season. The other clip is the southpark guys.... from what they are saying I get the impression that the peabody audience is filled with BSG fans. Anyway... all pretty fun and short.
BUT.... stay away from the "Comic Con" clip.... RDM almost immediately launches into an outline of the next season... no plot surprises in the first few seconds before I got it to stop... but still... where there's smoke there could be fire.
OKAY.... one more thing. Last night I saw a commercial that I still am not sure if I misunderstood... I know about the 1 hour preview that's already aired, but this was something called BSG:Resistance? Is this the spinoff LAIAC mentioned ? If I heard right, there will be episodes airing on SCIFi Pulse during September... on Tuesdays and Thursdays. That could mean starting in just 3 days?!
They only played it once... and I couldn't find anything on the website about it, so maybe I misunderstood something. I'm guessing it would be short action packed episodes using minor or new characters... sort of a european football league for BSG.
Get to Pulse straight through LEIAC's sicfi link. Anyway.... sounds like interesting times will be soon upon us!!!
There are webisodes called Battlestar Galactica: The Resistance available at Scifi.com/battlestar. A new one is posted every Tuesday and Thursday; two are currently up. You should watch them. They are short and form a part of the story (they are not interviews, videoblogs or such, though you may want to pause once you're done, to avoid the teaser clips that play afterward). They set things up for next season by telling the story of what happens between the Season Two finale and Season Three premiere , so watching them may make the premiere a bit more understandable. Going to scifi.com/battlestar will immediately activate the most recent webisode; you should watch the first one first (by clicking on it).
Starchild: The spinoff is called Caprica isn't yet filming, I believe.
Actually it's no longer coming up immediately. Maybe it will when the next is posted. Regardless, to see them you'll have to click on "Video".
God, it's been a long wait.
