Season Finale, Part 1

Went a new direction with the teaser music, unified throughout it, culminating to, "Something dark is coming, Helo, I can feel it." Then the strung-out Chief beats Callie with a paperweight? (I'm sure he was holding something, but what was it?)

Gauis keeps referring to "god" in the singular. Reminds me of a deleted scene from season one. Gaius uses the singular, and Six grabbed his face, stared in his eyes, and said, "You referred to god in the singular...it's moments like this that remind me of how much I love you..."

I really like this priest that's "helping" Tyrol. Very blunt and witty. Plus, he's got some crazy eyes. He really reminds me of Commander Adama from TOS...Lorne Greene. That was an amazing moment when the priest said that Tyrol thought he was a Cylon. I think it would be a tad too ironic if either of them was one, especially the priest. (Cylon meetings...so brilliant because they have them!)

We like President Roslin becsue she is our new Ronald Reagan (There he goes again...). Or maybe we like Gaius because he is FDR (Fearing fear itself.)

That was a great cliffhanger. This show is so brilliant. I don't know what my Friday nights would be like without it. Perhaps I would have friends...but who needs friends when you can have such stunning writing and character development...such gorgeous sci-fi.

I'm not so sure that neither one of them is a Cylon, though.
And don't forget that Lee also mentioned 'the future.' and some other things.

I noticed that Gaius mentions the one god in front of Zarek, and Zarek didn't bat an eyelash. He didn't seem to notice.... how long before Gaius says "god" in front of the media I wonder. I'm trying to figure out if Zarek should have noticed... would he suspect anything? Or is it a trap by the writers.... It seems like Zarek should have noticed... seems like Gaius did this before and he got corrected by someone, or he corrected himself. With cylons looking like humans.... it should stand out. Not like one of us saying "the gods".... in casual conversation it's an innocent ironic reference ... but we were never wiped out by killer robots.

Then Six starts using Zarek as a prop... and comparing Gaius to him.

Are We are suppossed to think they are both cylons.... Zarek & Gaius? I don't buy it, maybe it's a trick by the writers, but I think they are up to something. I thought it was an odd, noticeable moment!

I'm glad you mentioned the singular "god" bit with Zarek. I think I started talking about that, then got derailed by my own train of thought or the events of the episode. Probably both. Anyway, that really surprised me that Zarek didn't flinch. Maybe he suspects Gaius anyway. Or...he could be a Cylon. It fits a little. Political renegade and all that, goes to prison and now holds a good amount of power in the colonial population. But yet...I don't buy it.

I caught the quotes but didn't think about it until reading your commentary, the writers.... it seems to me.... like to have characters say or do things to get those viewers blogging in terms of politics to interpret each character as right or left. Then swing the character back in the other direction. For example, getting Adama to take the journalist's tape and she shouts she's sick and tired of having her patriotism questioned.... causing some viewers to think they have the two pegged. In the next scene, adama returns the tape... and the journalist turns out to be a cylon.

So Gaius went pro-choice & FDR, Ellen went pro-life and Reagan.... left and right repectively. So I'm guessing that next week we will see Gaius do or say something generally thought of as right wing... and Ellen doing or saying something generally thought of as left wing.

Just to keep us off balance.

oh yeah... I loved that new mood music too. The whole intro was great... cycling from one scene to the next and the attack was really intense. I couldn't tell what was in chief's hand though.

Bill Adama Is So Very Frackable! said...

Loved part one of the finale! Loved the quantum leap guy as the priest/counselor! Loved when Roslyn told Gaius to go frack himself! LOVED IT! LOVED IT! LOVED IT!

Question for all... the actor who plays Lt. gaeta, what is his name? Did he play Warren (perhaps pre nose job) on Buffy the Vampire Slayer? He looks so familiar! I think he's a cylon. ;)

And yes, Bill Adama makes me HOT! I think needs a young love interest... not Roslyn (gag me!) to shag him senseless. Can't help it, have always LOVED EJO!

quantum Leap?

I thought he was "Death of a thousand screams to Yueh" Yueh from Dune, or "a candy colored clown they call the sandman" singing Ben in Blue Velvet ;>}

the scifi channel link on LAIAC's home page leads you to discussions of the characters.... Gaeta is quite multi-talented including the lead in an opera? and played Druid on Dark Angel... which sounds buffy related but I don't know. They don't mention a Buffy role.

By the way, the official jargon for Boomer's baby is now Poptart.

Think on it for a sec.

The basis of the plotline for Dark Angel was that an "EMP" hit Seattle, and then the "dark angel" crouches on top of the Space Needle in tight shiny pants, fighting evil and so on. Ironic, because the ugly mass of twisted metal beneath the Space Needle is the Experience Music Project-the EMP.

Dean Stockwell played Brother Cavil, the priest. His filmography is mostly in 60's TV spots, a few 80's movies, and then Quantum Leap in the early 90's. Contemporary sci-fi fans may recognize him from a 2002 (or season six) episode of Stargate SG-1.

A personal request: please don't post anything unnecessary. While you may find Edward James to be a very attractive man, I find it rude and offensive and quite frankly, a waste of my time to read about it. Thanks.

Not that there's anything wrong with stating that we think characters/actors are attractive (I would say Apollo and Boomer are the most attractive male and female characters), but let's not be carried away by enthusiasm.

lots of forshadowing going on in this one. When gaius makes his one god comment, he's saying something along the line of I'll just wait for the hand of god to reach out and change the election.... which is what may have happened (changing the election that is) with the discovery of the planet.

The planet gets discovered by racetrack.... who was it during the intro who asked apollo to save them a seat on earth if it's discovered while they are gone? Was that racetrack too? Apollo says that the first rock they find that supports life he's going to build them a bar... or something like that. So he directly forshadows finding the planet.

Also early in the show, sharon says a dark time is coming... just might be more forshadowing about what happens on the planet. I guess she's really forshadowing next season.... what ever state the show leaves us in next friday should lead us directly to "a dark time".

That's a good thing of course, if she said "next season is just going to be one long party".... it wouldn't be nearly as much fun.
